Our 100% habotai silk sheet sets
are an ideal 15 mm weight (momme weight, pronounced like 'mummy'). 20+ mm weight
silk would be used in suits, for example, much too thick for sheet sets or
bedding. Momme is a Japanese weight equal to 3.75 grams which is applied to a
piece of fabric measuring 25 yards by 1.49 inches (an area of 1.035 square
yards); A piece of 1 momme silk would weigh 3.62 grams per square yard. A piece
of 8 momme silk would weigh about 1 oz per square yard. The abbreviation for
momme is "mm".
Habotai silk thread is fine; thread count would be
impossible to calculate but far exceed that of cotton sheets in comparison.
The silk filament is very strong, however; actually as strong as steel of the same
thickness, resisting breakage up to a weight of 4g per filament.
Buyer beware! Lesser quality products often tear after a few uses, contain polyester (satin) or are have smaller flat/fitted sheets
These sheets DO NOT HAVE SEAMS, they are woven on a single giant loom for that reason.
They are also machine washable/dryable, not in need of dry cleaning.
Our Habotai Silk Sheets are velvety in texture; they aren't slippery or shiny like satin or charmeuse. Satin or charmeuse is most often a silk/polyester blend- not at all the same thing.
